- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: SS Oriana Launched. DESCRIPTION: The biggest liner built in Britain for 20 years was launched at Vickers-Armstrong’s yard, Barrow-in-Furness. Princess Alexandra had come to perform the ceremony. This forty thousand tons, fourteen million pound Orient liner will take the Suez route to Australia, and will also be engaged in the Pacific. She will carry some two thousand passengers. Amenities include 3 swimming-pools, and a large cinema. SHOTLIST: CU name on side of ship ‘Oriana’. LS ships propellers. CU two men greasing slipway.
