MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Presidential Inauguration. DESCRIPTION: Washington was under snow on the day of Mr Kennedy’s inauguration as President of the United States. Ex-President Truman, President Eisenhower and their wives were present to witness the ceremony. Mr Kennedy then took the oath, administered by the Chief Justice. . After congratulations from Mr Nixon and Ike, President Kennedy made his inaugural address. So, with words of courage and wisdom, he began his term of office. SHOTLIST: GV Washington. LS pan down from White House to crowds on balcony. GV crowd - President Kennedy among crowd. MS Ex-President Truman. Mr Kennedy talking to Ex-President Eisenhower. ‘Ike’ with Mrs Kennedy. Speech - Let the word go forth from this time and place to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. So let us begin a new remembering on both sides, that civility is not a sign of weakness and sincerity is always subject to proof, let us never negotiate out of fear but let us never fear to negotiate.
