- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Undermining Manchester. DESCRIPTION: Damage estimated at more than a million pounds has been caused by the Coal Board’s major extensions to Bradford Colliery. The pit, more than 100 years old, has recently undergone extensive modernisation. Besides damage to factory buildings and installations (the biggest gasometer has started tilting over), the brick bed of a river has been fractured in several places, and hundreds of houses, too, have been affected.
