Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Search for Safety. DESCRIPTION: Many life-jackets cause an unconscious person to float face-downwards - and drown. But fortunately we’re finding the answers thanks to a testing programme by the British Standards Institution. Every life-jacket should allow the wearer to float in safety and should have a minimum standard of buoyancy and automatically turn him onto his back within 5 seconds. A demonstration of new types of fire extinguishers which can put out an oil or petrol fire in a matter of seconds. A blow-out in Kansas of natural gas. Inflammable gas, blasting out of a water-filled crater, eighty feet across. Also pictures of the Japanese Winter festival. SHOTLIST: Key scene. MS man falls into water with life-jacket and floats.
