MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Women’s 5,000 M Walk. DESCRIPTION: Competitors came from all over Europe to compete in the 5,000 metre walk at Smethwick during a Women’s AAA meeting in the Midlands. It was won by Sweden’s Margareta Simu. SHOTLIST: GV towards, pan to BV, mass start. SLV walkers. BV Nos 91, 92 & 93 of France. LV walkers around stadium. SV Mayor Alderman E White and Mayoress Mrs N Docherty watching from grandstand. SCV No 102, Margareta Simu of Sweden (winner) in lead. SV No 102 followed by No 103 Berit Johsson from Sweden who came 2nd, pan with 102 to back view. SV bunch of walkers, No 81 of Denmark just ahead of No 82 of Denmark and No 99 of England, behind them No 89 of Norway. SV No 96 of England & No 100 Sweden (Elizabeth Classon). STV Nos 97 & 98 of England (Barbara Cook & Margaret Lewis). LV pan from No 87 of Norway (in 3rd place) & No 90 of France (2nd place) to No 102 in lead. STV Nos 84 of Norway & 104 of Sweden. BV ditto. SV towards No 99 of England & No 81 of Denmark. SV towards No 103 in 2nd place followed by No 90 of France, then No 87 and then No 95 of England who eventually came 3rd. CU timekeeper with clip board next to official ringing hand bell for last lap. SV towards Nos 92, 91 & 93 of France. LV walkers coming up to finish No 102 in lead. SV crowd cheering. SV pan as No 102 crosses line to win. CU No 102 being hugged. SV crowd applauding. SV No 102 (1st), No 103 (2nd), No 95 (3rd).
