- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Her Majesty the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations. DESCRIPTION: To start the Jubilee festivities Her Majesty the Queen lit a Beacon at Snow Hill, Windsor Great Park. The Windsor Beacon was the first in a chain that were to blaze all over the British Isles. The following day the Queen and Prince Philip drove in the Golden State Coach through the crowd-lined streets to St. Paul’s Cathedral. In the carriage procession preceding the Queen, rode the members of her family. At Templebar, Her Majesty touched the Pearl Sword which was preferred by the Lord Mayor, a ceremony dating back to the Middle Ages. Then the procession moved on to St. Paul’s for the Service of Thanksgiving. To the great delight of the crowd the Queen made one of her famous ‘Royal Walkabouts’. Accompanied by the Lord Mayor, Her Majesty walked through the streets from the Cathedral to the Guildhall. As the Queen stepped out onto the balcony at Buckingham Palace, after a day of pageantry, she was greeted by scenes reminiscent of Coronation Day. Despite the rain which began to fall, the assembled throng cheered their thanks to the Queen for twenty-five years of dedication to the role of Monarch. SHOTLIST: GV Windsor Castle from Long Walk.
