- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Derby. DESCRIPTION: There was a large crowd at Epsom for the 199th running of the Derby Stakes. This year’s field was considered to be a very open one, with Lester Piggott on ‘Inkerman’ starting as favourite. The twenty-nine runners were very much together around most of the course, with ‘Hawaiian Sound’ ridden by American jockey, Willie Shoemaker, leading.
