Summary
NoS Summary - Women potters make vases, jugs and moulded figures - they then decorate them.
British Pathe synopsis: "They are clay models in this instance, and as such, must commence as ordinary clay - dug by willing pupils." M/S of a group of women digging a large hole and piling clay up on either side. "Of course, a little treatment is necessary before the modelling starts..." M/S of two of the women pressing the clay through a sieve. M/S of a woman kneading a chunk of clay. "The use of moulds in the reproduction of figures is one branch" C/U of table with moulds and figures made of clay. C/U of a woman pressing clay into a mould. The mould is then taken off piece by piece. It is a figure of a frog. "Putting the finishing touches." Various shots of the moulded figures being finished by hand. "Now to the potter’s wheel - truly an art as old as the hills." A piece of clay is thrown onto the wheel - C/U of the potters hands as she moulds the clay. C/U of the pot taking shape. "The paint work is an art in itself" C/U of a table with lots of pots and jugs on it. Girls paint the pots by hand. C/U of finished articles.
