- Summary
- NoS Summary - children playing a game of chess on an outdoor board.
British Pathe synopsis: "Chess - the great name of the thinker - and a novel way they played it in Kent" High angle shot of a chess board. Pieces are moved - a game in progress. Dissolve into a large outdoor chess board with real children representing the chess pieces. The children take it in turns to move across the board. When one piece "takes" another the children tap each other on the shoulder and point to the edge of the board. The losing piece walks off. Low angle of man scratching his head - as if wondering what move to make next. Game continues. M/S of man sitting on a chair on top of a table beside the chess board. He is presumably directing play. Low angle the other "player". "Check!" The player seen first stands on the table scratching his head. The white rook walks across the board, points at the king who puts his hands up in a "surrender" gesture. The second player looks excited and throws his hand in the air. "And mate!" He sits back in his chair and we see the move from a high angle. M/S of all the pieces marching towards each other from either side of the board, then towards the camera. Looks like this was shot outside a school - the two "players’ are probably teachers. - Keywords
