- Summary
- BFI synopsis: The Careers Exhibition held at the Science Museum, London.
NCB Commentary - London’s Science Museum is, for 8 weeks this winter, the home of the Engineer’s Day Exhibition.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Technology - the exhibition’s main purpose is to attract and interest boys and girls in Engineering as a career.
Many Government departments exhibited - the Post Office Tower stands high in the interest rating.
The aircraft industry - the Royal Navy - and the National Coal Board were all on display.
Main purpose of the Coal Board stand was to demonstrate the advances that have been made in the remote control of mining operations.
From a surface control room just like this all operations above and below ground can be monitored and controlled - telephone and teleprinters keep the mine manager in touch with all that is happening in his colliery.
Control rooms like this are symbols of the evolution of the mining industry into one of the most technically sophisticated in the land.
From the world of today our present and future enginers will secure Britain’s position in the world of tomorrow. - Keywords
