Summary
COI synopsis: This is a special London Line to Nigeria and for Nigeria only. Under United Nations auspices, a British engineer has developed a fishing catamaran that can be used on the open sea like a trawler, but can beach itself on the shore like a canoe. This is of special value where there is an off-shore fishing industry but no harbour facilities. We show the successful tests on the vessel carried out in Britain and in Nigeria, with the encouragement of Nigerian officials in their creative and progressive concern to develop the nation’s fisheries.
Researcher Comments
Includes interviews with Edwin Gifford of the boatbuilding firm of E.W.H. Gifford & Partners, and Mr Dada, head of the Fisheries Division of the Western State of Nigeria. Utilises footage from British Movietone and Pathe.
