Summary
B17s (Flying Fortresses) are to make a daylight raid over France. At a bomber station in England their crews attend briefing before driving in jeeps across the ‘drome to their waiting planes. The crews take their places, a signal from the pilot, and the planes roar down the tarmac for the take-off. Over France the bomb aimer keeps a sharp look-out for the objective and when the target is in his sights he opens bomb doors. One plane has an engine on fire but on a four-engine plane this isn’t nearly so disastrous as it could be and the plane is kept aloft as it heads back to base. On landing, the Commanding General of Bomber Command General Eaker who was aboard one of the planes, is greeted by General Spatz, Commander of the USAAF (United States Air Force), while the rest of the crews go into the Interrogation Office.
