- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: Show-biz is on parade. We’re at a glamorous Variety Club luncheon with the stars of the cinema and of sport. Billy Walker, the boxer, breaks training for this occasion then gets back into athletic trim at the Hindleap project, Sussex, the biggest outdoor camp for boys’ clubs’ courses and holidays that we’ve ever seen. The Variety Club is one of the world’s greatest charities and we see its work, first, taking a sixty-year-old classic film farce to a children’s home. Lord Mountbatten outlines the work Variety does and we see the stars giving Christmas gifts to hospitals and orphanages and actually taking them to the kids in person. We see the way Variety raises three million pounds a year for charity. We see one of their hydro-therapeutic pools in a children’s hospital and we go off in a sunshine coach they’ve provided - with Millicent Martin singing a song to them that fascinates us all.
