Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: USS Lexington. DESCRIPTION: With America’s ship building programme going ahead with great speed it is hoped that out Atlantic convoys will be safer in the future. Seven brothers who had all been serving on the ‘Lexington’ when it was sunk in the China Sea, were welcomed at Portland, Oregon by their father. SHOTLIST: This is the second story on the same subjects that has come to us from America. There is also a story entitled ‘Admiral Sherman’. Shots of the bombed aircraft carrier on fire, after the battle of the Coral Sea. Explosions shake the ship and she lists heavily. Some of this material was used as illustration to the interview with Admiral Sherman, previously filed. There is a close up of him sitting at a table making a speech. At the beginning of this story are shots of American sailors aboard carrier and shots of the aircraft on deck. A very good shot shows American sailors standing on a big gun in a row. USS Lexington And Japanese Carrier - CARD 42529 Shot showing the aircraft carrier, the ship that paid the price, in winning the battle of the Coral Sea. Shots show how the Lexington launched her planes to fly into battle. Shot of the Japanese carrier, that was as enemy loss. Shots showing an American plane bombing. These are followed by official Navy pictures of the Lexington torpedoed and bombed. Abandon ship is given and the crew go over the side.
