Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Solomons Cleared. DESCRIPTION: At their headquarters Admiral Nimitz and General MacArthur plan the campaign that brought final defeat to the Japanese forces in Bougainville. Eight thousand Japanese were killed and this bloody battle completed the victory in the Solomons. SHOTLIST: Cut story - CU of MacArthur & Nimitz, GS of them looking at map on wall. Map of Solomons, shows Bougainville in the fore. LS Battleship firing her guns either at dawn or dusk. Plane drops smoke screen bombs, US troops already ashore taking cover (natural). GS of officers looking through field glasses. Soldier stripped to waist, works at field telephone. GS of smoke screen just above beach. Tanks go through jungle. LS of US troops marching along jungle track. Infantry follow tanks through jungle. Shot from inside tank, GV of surrounding as seen through look-out of tank. Tanks going forward. Flame throwers in action, grenades thrown etc. all this time gunfire can be heard. Jap grenade falls near group of Yanky soldiers. Pan of battlefield shows dead Japs in trenches. Wounded American soldiers on stretcher placed on ground, another brought into camp on a jeep. Soldier standing firing their rifles.
