- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Nation Gives Thanks for Peace. DESCRIPTION: The King, Queen and the two Princesses drove through London to St Paul’s for the Service of Thanksgiving for the final victory. The Service was attended by members of the Government and distinguished visitors from abroad. In the ruins of the Guards Chapel another service was held, the Chapel was struck by a flying bomb in June last year. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS GV St Paul’s Cathedral amid ruins. Elevated shot of royal procession through Admiralty Arch, across Trafalgar Square, crowds waving, etc. Elevated shot of Royal Family in landau. Procession up Ludgate Hill, escorted by Household Cavalry, streets lined with cheering people. Elevated shot as carriage draws into St Paul’s courtyard. King received by Lord Mayor (Sir Frank Alexander) who preceded the King and Queen up the steps bearing the Sword. Just inside Cathedral, King is received by Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr Fisher). Royal Family go to their pews, followed by King George of the Hellenes, King Peter and his wife of Yugoslavia. The above Royalty leaving Cathedral. Walking down steps. King and Queen, with the two Princesses drive off. Elevated shot of same. Mr and Mrs Attlee (in Red Cross uniform) walk down Cathedral steps. Mr and Mrs Churchill ditto. Followed by Mr and Mrs Bevin, Mr and Mrs Morrison, Sir Stafford Cripps on steps. Mr and Mrs Greenwood walk down steps. Groups of MP’s, Ambassadors - Mr Winant (US Ambassador) and Mr Wellington Koo with his wife on steps. Harold Macmillan and Lady Dorothy are seen briefly. Mix to Wellington Barracks, Guards Chapel. Guards service in progress amid the ruins of same, various shots. Mix to country church in Norfolk, few exterior shots. Interior shots of service in progress, congregation singing.
