Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Her Majesty Aboard for Queen Elizabeth Trials. DESCRIPTION: The Queen and Princesses went aboard the liner Queen Elizabeth as she carried out sea trials off the Scottish coast. The Queen took a turn at the helm, whilst Princess Elizabeth timed one of the ship’s runs. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Bows of SS Queen Elizabeth as seen from deck. Library - Queen Elizabeth and two Princesses alight from car, walk towards launching platform, cut-in of crowds (elevated cheering, QE going down slipway and entering water. Queen Elizabeth and two Princesses aboard the liner, walk along deck. Below deck they inspect accommodation, suites etc., on deck again Queen looks at rails, GIs having carved their names etc. on same. SV QE at speed on her trials. Various shots of QE at speed on trial taken from another ship, also aerial shots of her, all angles. Queen with Sir James Bissett on bridge looks through field glasses. Looking at coastline of Arran. Princess Elizabeth with stop-watch checks times. Looking over side of ship at bows cutting water. Princess Margaret looking through glasses. Queen at the helm with Bissett, who is giving her advice on steering. Taken from bows looking at stern wake of the QE as she turns. SV of QE passing Isle of Arran with sun setting in background. Royal party leave QE for small launch. Launch pulls away, leaving QE which is lit up. Sir Percy Bates in company with Queen.
