Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Eire Becomes a Republic. DESCRIPTION: President O’Kelly and his wife, Prime Minister Costello, Mr de Valera and many other officials attended High Mass at the Pro-Cathedral. Later the President took the salute at a marchpast by representatives of all the services. SHOTLIST: KS Elevated GV crowds in O’Connell Street. Ditto. Cars arrive outside Pro-Cathedral, escorted by motor bikes. President O’Kelly and wife alight from car & greeted. Costello walks towards camera. De Valera enters Pro-Cathedral, into camera. Crowds in O’Connell Street. MS Guard of Honour. Guard of Honour present arms & Irish National Anthem is played (short version). MS Irish flag being hoisted on roof of GPO. GV line of soldiers on roof firing "feu de joie" (rifle sound). Various shots of marchpast, troops all services, armoured vehicles, tanks etc. troops in tin helmets. Elevated GV crowds. CU types of old Irish types (believed to be old revolutionary types). Elevated GV marchpast in & out of camera. Finish on SCU Eire flag flying at hoist.
