- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: South Africa’s Third Centenary. DESCRIPTION: The landing of the first Dutch settlers in Granger Bay, was re-enacted to mark the occasion of the third centenary of that event and to open the Festival in Capetown. There was a mile-long procession of floats illustrating historic events in the country’s early history. Thousands of people attended the Exhibition and the Fun-Fair. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV arena with Table Mountain in background. Ditto. GV ship Dromedaries men row ashore. Shore scenes, Jan van Riebeck handing gifts to men. Procession through streets, showing the period from three hundred years ago to the present day. Floats of all kinds. At Capetown, exhibition, shows model English village, Much Binding in the Marsh Man with head & arms in stocks. GV Dutch village, several scenes. Various shots of fun-fair. Rickshaw & modern railways. Elevated GV stadium, shows parades, & demonstration in dancing etc.
