- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Launching of the North Devon. DESCRIPTION: Prefabrication and standardisation helped to complete a 10,000 ton motor ship in eleven weeks at Sunderland for the North Shipping Company. But bad weather prevented the launch. Meanwhile, the keel of a new ship was ready for the start of another high-speed ship-building. Next day, the North Devon, claiming to have been built in record time for any British yard, was sent down to the sea. SHOTLIST: LS looking up to bows to ship. GV ship the ‘North Devon’.
