- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Winter Olympics. DESCRIPTION: Our pictures show the opening the Winter Olympics, Squaw Valley, performed by Vice-President Richard Nixon, which started with the parade of the teams. And down the ski slope came the Olympic flame, carried by a former American champion, Mrs Lawrence. She handed the torch to Ken Henry, a famous skater, who lit the bowl of fire, which must burn throughout the Winter Games. Canada soon won a gold medal, when Robert Paul and Barbara Wagner won the pairs figure skating. The women’s Downhill Race was won by Miss Biebl of Germany. SHOTLIST: GV crowds at Squaw Valley.
