MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Clifton Suspension Bridge Centenary. DESCRIPTION: The Clifton Suspension Bridge across the Avon at Bristol is exactly 100 years old. It was at least a century ago the people in Bristol decided to build a bridge. A competition was held for a design. It was the one of 24 year old Brunel which eventually won the prize. The opening ceremony of the bridge was in 1864. Around 2 and a half million cars use the bridge every year but Brunel’s bridge shows no sign of strain. SHOTLIST: Various shots showing the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Also stone to the memory of Brunel. Brunel carved on the stone. Picture of people in a basket. More scenes of the bridge.
