- Summary
- COI synopsis: Since the invention of printing 500 years ago, the subsequent increase in the volume of books available to the public has seemed limitless. However, new books can still be costly, and to supply vast continents of readers, the second-hand book is an invaluable commodity. In the small town of Hay-on-Wye in Wales there is the largest collection of second-hand books in the world - a million volumes on every topic under the sun. Recently the bookshops there made a special feature of their books of Arabic interest, so much so that Arab students, scholars and collectors flocked there to see and buy from the collection. We visited Hay-on-Wye for SMB, to give some idea to our Arab-speaking viewers of the amenities available and of the great interest in Britain in Arabic language, culture and history.
