- Summary
- COI synopsis: It came as a surprise to Joan and Julius Evans, an American couple visiting Britain, to learn that every part of the British film industry must contribute by Parliamentary Law a small portion of their income to the making of special films for children. Sitting at a Saturday morning show, Joan and Julius are delighted with the children’s reactions. They learn from Lord Rank (known to many as J. Arthur Rank) how he happened to start this idea for special children’s cinema, with its vast new audience for documentary as well as entertainment films. Mary Field, then in charge of the project, explains how to determine the sort of programme children want, and how different types of films affect children of varying backgrounds.
