- Summary
- BFI synopsis: mining’s volunteer first-aiders enjoy a weekend holiday at Skegness.
NCB Commentary - At Skegness, Lincolnshire, the Derbyshire miners run a holiday camp.
Here, twice a year, colliery units of the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade take a weekend off.
Throughout the country about four and a half thousand St. John’s Ambulance men enjoy this sort of weekend away from home as a reward, in small measure, for the many voluntary first aid services they render throughout the year in and around the collieries.
Highlight of the weekend is the Sunday morning Church parade. Immaculate in full dress and in good marching order, the men of the Brigade make a fair show as they parade through the town.
At the saluting base, Area Superintendent Kendall presides with East Midlands Deputy Chairman Miron and Councillor Denham of the Skegness Urban District Council.
But relaxation is the key of this weekend holiday.
At the local fun fair the Ambulance men find plenty to occupy their leisure.
Back at the Camp, the St. John’s men don’t find that the evenings drag either. At Skegness, there’s a resident show which entertains holiday-makers with the best.
Yes, everyone’s having a wonderful time. - Researcher Comments
