- Summary
- BFI synopsis: The Treorchy Miners’ choir visits Zurich during British fortnight.
NCB Commentary - Last summer Zurich was the setting for a fortnight of British Trade and Culture.
At mid-night, from a rain-swept town in the South Wales Rhondda Valley, the Treorchy Miners Choir, left by coach for London Airport.
When their chartered plane touched down next day at Zurich - it wasn’t raining and the sun wasn’t exactly shining - but the men were in good voice.
Before the Lord Mayor of London, the Fortnight’s attractions included a military parade. And here’s a London bus - almost empty, for a change.
In pit-prop straight ranks marched the singing miners from Treorchy.
The rains came - it was just like home - in time for a concert in the park.
But it takes more than rain to damp the spirits of the men from Treorchy under John Haydn Davies.
The men have been singing all their lives - whatever the weather and wherever their fine reputation takes them. - Keywords
