- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Suez - the Latest Moves. DESCRIPTION: A number of Army Convoys had their own Bank Holiday rush to the seaside, following the War Office Announcement that steps would be taken to safeguard our interests in Suez. At Portsmouth, the Carrier Thesus was waiting, men and equipment of the 16th Independent Parachute Brigade and the Royal Artillery were soon going aboard. The Egyptian vessel Star of Luxor was waiting at Liverpool to load a shipment of arms, bound for the Lebanon, the dockers refused to load the cargo. Meanwhile in South Wales, naval squads including Frogmen were making ready a number of tank landing craft, which had been put into mothballs in 1953. At Portsmouth, the 22,000 ton Aircraft Carrier Bulwark was the second fleet carrier to leave for the Mediterranean within 24 hours. SHOTLIST: Various shots of the lorry convoys on their way to the ships at Portsmouth. Various shots of equipment etc. being loaded onto the ‘Thesus’. Liverpool - MLS of the Egyptian ship ‘Star of Luxor’. CU nameplate on the boat. Shots of trucks and ammunition etc. on the dockside. MCU of the ship. South Wales - Row of tank loading craft. Frogmen putting their outfits on. Frogman jumps into the water. Frogman seen inspecting the boat. Men pulling the protective material off the ropes etc. (this has been protecting the ship over the years). Shot of the ships in a line. Portsmouth - MCU of the ‘Bulwark’. Sailor comes down gangplank and kisses girl. Women waving. Gangplank being moved away. Men pulling ropes of the ship. Crowds waving. MLS of the ‘Bulwark’. Crowds waving with the ‘Bulwark’ in the distance. ‘Bulwark’ moving out of the harbour.
