- Summary
- Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - The 70th Session of Nyasaland’s Legislative Council is historic in several ways. It is the last to be presided over by Sir Geoffrey Colby prior to his retirement, the last to be held under the old constitution and the last to be held in this Council Chamber. In his closing speech Sir Geoffrey Colby pleaded for better racial understanding and united efforts towards Nyasaland’s progress. Then by way of leaving the old order and heralding in the new, His Excellency proceeded to lay the foundation stone of the new £60,000 Legislative Council Chamber. It is hoped the Council will meet in it before the year’s end.
A strange cheque turned up in a Blantyre Bank. A cheque can be written on anything and a Major P. Moxon wrote a cheque for his Poll Tax on a sucking pig. The bank accepted it too, smacked the paid stamp on it and hopes no one keeps elephants. - Keywords
